HDD Exception?

Hello everyone I think I already know the answer to this question lol but it's the first time so just after some advice from people who know.

I woke up this morning and the NVR was beeping DS-7604NXI-K1/4P(D) and when logging into Hik-Connect it had the red warning with HDD Exception and all recordings/playback not available but live stream was still working fine.

I have turned off/on the NVR and all seemed to be working fine and when checking NVR via web it was showing as good but when I ran the bad detection it finished all green but then started beeping again, redone the bad detection but this time it was encountering a red block on the first one.

Im guessing the HDD is knackered (4TB Seagate Skyhawk only 4 month old)

Is there anyway to still use the cameras live stream only but turn off that beeping noise? I cant find any where within the configuration to disable noises etc.

Thanks

Not in the normal config menus, but in the top right corner of the live screen. In the maintenance menu there's a checkbox somewhere to disable fully the buzzer so that it cannot beep for any alert or description. I can't remember the exact procedure as I haven't been in that menu since yesterday and I already forgot!

Edit: I’m in front of one now:

- Click the info icon in the upper right of the local screen (‘i’ in a circle)
- Click the blue ‘more’ link in the lower right of the System Info pop-up that appears
- Click ‘Buzzer Switch’ on the left
- Turn off amp click Apply

Thanks JB im gonna have a look now , do you still think the Skyhawks are the better HDD or would you recommend the WD Purple? Im guessing I just got unlucky with this, its from amazon so not sure if its not genuine to be honest lol

I generally use Skyhawks and I've used WD Purple a few times without issue. You probably just got unlucky, it happens. However as mentioned in another post somewhere, there are some Skyhawks that are not fully compatible (won't store VCA data) so check the part numbers against the Hikvision compatibility chart if you're buying from Amazon (I made the mistake at least once). Make sure it is NOT one of these:

ST4000VX005, ST2000VX012, ST4000HKVS001, ST8000VX002, ST8000VX008, ST6000VX010, ST6000VX011, ST4000VX013, ST3000VX016, ST3000VX017, ST2000VX015

I’ll check the one I bought against the site , this has been fine up until this point to be fair.

Do you know where the system info pop up box is once clicking the info button? I’m not getting any pop up window so can’t find the buzzer section, I use a Mac so just jumped on sons windows but still the same.

Unfortunately it's only on the local menu (HDMI output). Unless you can find it directly in the maintenance menu, but I've not seen it there.

Ah okay mate I’ll unplug it all and use it on a tv , where mine is setup I always use virtual host. Cheers

You might be able to find it in the 'Exception Configuration'. There you can turn off the buzzer for individual events. This is from my M but there will be something similar on the NXI:

I’ll take a look when I done it through TV mate but I’m almost certain there is no exception section on my virtual host , but I might be wrong

Do you have any idea on what to try as I’m just getting a black screen when nvr is plugged into tv via hdmi, the main hikviaion screen loads up then it’s just a black screen with the mouse pointer in the top left corner, the pointer won’t move , don’t know why nothing happening lol

Well the good news is that it isn’t one of the ones you listed so just unlucky for me. Thanks for your help mate appreciate it.

Do you have any recommendations on a 8chan NVR mate? I have 4 4mp smart hybrid at the minute but ive been thinking to maybe add a 5th camera for my front porch/door , but im using the 7604, is there much difference between the 8chan or just the bandwidth mainly? Im not too sure what the main differences are between the K/M/I series etc and I only use it for home use so don't think I would need the top spec one. Thanks

The only difference between the DS-7604NXI-K1/4P and the DS-7608NXI-K1/8P would be the incoming bandwidth.

The newer (D) revisions don't have a fan on the K1s. The K2 (DS-7608NXI-K2/8P) has two HDD bays (and a fan I think) and marginally better decoding performance; but it sounds like you're running yours without a monitor so maybe that's not a big concern.

The existing NXI-I are better spec'd than the K but are similar in cost to the NI-M models.

As the NI-M model is an NI not an NXI it doesn't have AcuSense or AcuSearch (there are NXI-M models available in other countries)

The latest model in the UK is/will be the DS-76xx-NXI-I2/xP/VPro that have AcuSense, AcuSearch and the new AcuSeek feature. I think Use-IP have them in, my suppliers don't yet (expected tomorrow), but that's what I'll be getting next. In performance terms it'll be a bit of a downgrade from the M but I want to try out the new features.

That's what I don't fully understand is the bandwidth etc , I think im fine with what im running now 4x 4MP (3x G2H and 1x G3). If I was to get 8chan I should still be fine as would only be 5 cameras anyways at the most.

What is the prices of the new ones mate? I don't run a monitor with mine as it's in the airing/boiler cupboard with cables coming in from the loft so that's why I change settings etc on virtual host , on a side note with the fans I noticed today when I unplugged mine to take downstairs it was red-hot on the bottom (I wonder if that's why HDD failed) is it normal for them to be very hot and would a fan make much difference ? (Its one of the reason I decided against installing everything in the loft due to the heat in summer)

As for the AcuSense stuff etc I always have it set for the camera to do the detection and ive never used it on the NVR (or at least I don't think I have lol). Im not dead set on adding another camera yet so may not need to get a new NVR but just trying to work out costings etc , so if I do decide it wouldn't be any time soon either , maybe early next year.

Also if I do decide to add another etc do you sell stuff also or you just install? Only asking as I know you live not far away , no big deal if not as I can probably ask YESS to get the stuff like before. Cheers mate

The bandwidth is just the total of the bitrate for all of the main and sub streams combined. If you're running VBR which most do it'll be variable. If you were running 4MP cameras at 25FPS H264 the recommended max bit rate is 8192; at H265 it's half that at 4096. So using worst case scenario - 5 cameras at 25FPS H264 CBR 8192Kbps. 5 x 8192 is 40960Kbps (40Mbps) so you're fine. That's a simplistic calculation but you get the idea.

It's against forum rules to discuss prices on here, but to be honest I wouldn't reveal what I pay as an installer for a product as I'm getting trade only pricing.

The heat might have been generated by the faulty hard drive. The fan just pulls air through across the board (above the HDD). I've unplugged the fans on plenty and when comparing temperatures without the fan, they tended to run at about 4 or 6 degrees warmer. I installed one in a loft yesterday, a new (D) model without a fan and that one is currently showing 49 degrees C for the HDD temperature. Other systems I have in the area are showing anywhere between 35 and 50 currently.

The benefit of any NXI is that even if you use the camera for AcuSense (rather than the NVR) they can do AcuSearch (pick a target and search for similar in the recordings) whereas my M series NI cannot do it

I just do a supply and install. Likewise I avoid installing what others have purchased themselves. There are plenty who will sell on to the public but I'm 'by the book' and no-one should be supplying unless they can offer support. I'm surprised at Yesss electrical doing that as they'd be no use for support and I'm sure Dynamic would tell anyone where to go if they had purchased through a non authorised channel.

Ah that’s fair enough then mate , I get people only want to work with stuff they have got themselves etc as you know it’s not knockoff etc.

And like I said before I don’t have an account or anything with YESS they just let me buy the equipment so I can’t complain lol , but as you say I am on my own (or help from the likes of yourself and others on here, so appreciate it a lot).

On a different note , do you know if there is anyway to get a screenshot like a ring doorbell on HikConnect when notifications are sent?

Not quite sure what you're trying to do. Hik-Connect will only bring up a banner on screen when a notification is sent, to see the snapshot you have to click on the push notification or go into the app (unless you mean a Hik doorbell/intercom which will bring up the live screen once you acknowledge the call). I wasn't aware that Ring did that (I don't use them)

Yeah it’s just the notification banner saying “front garden line crossing” etc and the snapshot , basically to save opening up the app to see who is there.

I just get it telling me “driveway crossing , back garden intrusion” so have to click on it to open the app and see who/what has triggered the event.

When you pay for the ring yearly subscription that is one of the features, so if it’s just the postman I don’t have to open the app to see who it is on live view then.

If iOS/Android permits that I'm surprised Hik-Connect haven't implemented it yet - no doubt they'll catch up eventually.
