Intrusion detection appears to be ignoring minimum size thresholds

Objective is to alert (for now) and record only humans and our local fox.

My new setup camera only has Intrusion Detection setup as in the attached image. No motion detection and no other smart detection.
It IS correctly alerting me in Hik-Connect for fox and human sized activity, but IN ADDITION it is also recording all the small birds on the lawn (but not notifying). In the playback it's clear to see the green boxes for the birds are way smaller than my minimum size box. I've also tried lowering the sensitivity as seen. AcuSeek is enabled under General Settings. Not using NVR.

It's basically recording all day. Is something wrong or am I misconfiguring it. I might split the detection zone into two and draw smaller boxes in the lawn area, but for now surely it should be recording things smaller than my min?

Camera is DS-2CD2387G3-LIS2UY/SL firmware latest: V5.8.30 build 251210

I can't see anything fundamentally wrong with how you have it set up. I would clear the rule and save, disable intrusion and save then set it up again as it's not working. A couple of things when you set it up again:

1 - Start by setting up only the minimum size and leave the maximum alone. You'll want your minimum size to be larger than the birds, smaller than the fox. Keep in mind that from the cameras perspective, the size varies according to how far away it is from the camera. At the rear of your garden the bird is very small, so you maybe want to set the box smaller than a fox would appear at the far point.

2 - For your threshold I'd leave it one or two seconds. At 0 Intrusion Detection is the same as Region Entrance (though the latter previously had an issue where it would not notify events. I'm not sure whether that ever got resolved or whether it was specific to cameras connected via an NVR)

3 - Sensitivity can initially be left at its default. It's the inverse percentage of the target object size that needs to enter the zone. For example in your case above, the target has to be larger than the min box, smaller than the max and 99% needs to be in the area.

4 - If you're only recording on event, you might want to increase the 'Record Delay' value from 5 to maybe 20/30 seconds. Record Delay is badly worded, not sure why they [Hikvision] renamed those timers from Pre and Post Event

If you still can't get it how you want, you may want to try Line Crossing. Sometimes you'll find you get better results with one smart event type than another.
